Is Felicity Jones Playing Black Cat In 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'?

For awhile there, Felicity Jones was circling two different Marvel movies at the same time. She was a contender for the female lead in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which ultimately went to Emily VanCamp, and in January we learned she was in talks for a mystery role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. At the time, I and many others speculated she would be perfect for the role of Felicia Hardy, aka the Black Cat. In a recent interview to talk about her upcoming Drake Doremus film, Breathe In (review of that here, by the way), Jones appears to let the cat out of the bag, pun totally intended.

After the discussion turns from Doremus' indie romance to big budget superhero films, Jones is asked specifically about playing Black Cat, and here was her fidgety, rather awkward response...

Jones: "Uhm, Well.....possibly, I don't know. Yeah, If that happens that would be wonderful."

By no means is that a definitive, and it could be interpreted to mean something totally different. Perhaps she's playing May Day Parker and is hoping to apply some clever misdirection? That's probably not the case, and the most likely answer is that she's playing Felicia Hardy and was caught off-guard at being asked so directly about it. 

The addition of Hardy would mean not only another potential villain, but also another love interest for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) to deal with. He's already got Rhino, Electro, the Green Goblin, and possibly the Vulture to beat back. But that's nothing compared to the battles of the heart he could face with Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), Mary Jane (Shailene Woodley), and now Hardy. And they expect him to survive through four movies? Pfft!
