Sam Worthington Says 'Avatar' Sequels Will Shoot Next October
James Cameron has been working on his Avatar sequels practically since the moment the top-grossing film of all-time was completed, which was four years ago. Considering how groundbreaking it was in terms of pushing forward 3D technology, and the director's desire to further move the envelope, it's not surprising it's taken so long. There have been multiple dates tossed around for the trio of follow-ups, with Cameron recently stating that production would begin by the end of this year. But that doesn't seem to be happening, and now star Sam Worthington has revealed when filming will actually take place.
While appearing on an Australian radio show, Wortington was mostly battered by the hosts with gossip surrounding his relationship with Lara Bingle (she's extremely hot, by the way). But when he was able to get in a word edgewise he stated production on the Avatar films will begin next October....
Worthington: "We are going to start this time next year and we will do two, three and four. In one shot, we'll do them simultaneously. I'll be grateful if it finishes."
He added that the scripts by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, and Shane Salerno are still being written, and the whole thing has taken so long Worthington thinks Cameron may be "building a ship to Pandora."
Avatar 2 is scheduled to hit theaters in December 2016, with the next one a year later, and the final film in 2018.
