Some may find it weird that Tonto is getting the bulk of the spotlight in a film about The Lone Ranger, but those people really shouldn't look at it that way. The fact remains that Johnny Depp is an infinitely bigger star than Armie Hammer, and so it's his movies. Hammer will get plenty of rub ostensibly as the lead opposite Depp, in what is clearly the biggest role of his career.
As I said earlier, the marketing campaign is full effect for the Gore Verbinski adaptation of the iconic TV/radio show, and now the first official poster has been revealed. Hammer stars as the titular gunslinging vigilante, teamed up with his Native American sidekick to take on greed and corruption. The Lone Ranger stars Tom Wilkinson, Ruth Wilson, James Badge Dale, Barry Pepper, Helena Bonham Carter, and opens on July 3rd 2013.
