21 Jump Street a Go in 2010

I can think of few TV shows I want to be remade less than 21 Jump Street. I can think of few people that I want remaking it less than Jonah Hill. Hill confirmed, in an interview with Comingsoon.net, that shooting is set to begin sometime this year. He also confirmed that Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller were on board to direct.

"We're going to shoot it this year I think." says Hill, "We hired directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller who directed 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs' and are friends of mine. They are incredible. Their take on the movie is incredible... It's about cops who go back to high school. Young rookie cops who go back to high school. I think that's a real interesting idea as opposed to saying, that's not what happened in the show so it can't happen in the movie'."

Yeah, incredible. I'm sure those guys who made that crappy kiddie cartoon have cracked the code of awesomeness that will lead 21 Jump Street to movie greatness. Jonah also played up the idea that this won't be a parody or spoof, but an mix of action and comedy.  That's horse pucky. This film is a spoof by default just by Hill's presence alone. If he's one of the key characters, then it's going to be played up for laughs. I expect nothing but the worst out of this!

For those who might be too young to remember, 21 Jump Street was the 1980's drama series about a group of young, undercover cops working the high school beat. It helped launch the careers of more than a few stars, particularly Johnny Depp.
