Channing Tatum Joins Soderbergh's Knockout

The more news that comes out about Steven Soderbergh's spy thriller, Knockout, the better it sounds. At first, the intriguing aspect was the fact that MMA fighter Gina Carano was taking on the lead role as a black ops soldier betrayed by her own team. Now the supporting cast is starting to take to the forefront, and it's making this film look like it might be spectacular. Last week the news broke that Michael Douglas, Michael Fassbender, Dennis Quaid, and Ewan McGregor were  attached to the film in various roles.

Now The Playlist is reporting that Channing Tatum has signed on to the film as well as one of Carano's team of operatives, likely one of the people who betrayed her. Tatum has obvious action movie experience with his recent turn in films like Fighting and GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

Filming is set to begin shortly with a rather quick release date of August 2010 already slated. This is likely due to Soderbergh's typically smooth, no frills shooting process, although it'll be interesting to see how he manages that with a cast this large and a story that's seemingly action heavy. This is one of the few films of coming up that I'm highly anticipating. Soderbergh is one of my favorite directors, and I've been looking for him to do something less experimental than what he's been doing lately.
