Superman Lives?

This is all just mindless speculation, so don't take any of this as gospel or even a hinting that something is in the works, mmmkay? Over at his Millarworld site, Mark Millar, writer of Kick-Ass was ruminating on the possibility of tackling Superman, throwing the idea out to his loyal fanbase. He says...

"Obviously, there's some legal shit to sort out but anyone who thinks Superman is gone is just plum crazy. Should we pursue this aggressively, especially given the buzz on Kick-Ass is just astronomical and Matthew is being offered pretty much anything he wants to do?"

The Matthew he's referrring to is Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn. Mark Millar, who has been one of the most popular comic book artists in recent years, has a long history of wanting to take on the red & blue boyscout. In 2003 he wrote a highly regarded three part series titled Superman: Red Son which envisioned a world where Superman was born in the Soviet Union, but he's never had a real crack at him otherwise.

Millar is a writer that you either love or hate. If you liked Wanted(which he wrote) then chances are you'll like everything he does. Personally I've never been able to get into his work. It's all flash, no substance. However, after the disastrous Superman Returns which was about as exciting as getting your ears drained, Millar might be the adrenaline shot the franchise needs. Matthew Vaughn certainly is more than a capable director and has plenty of comic experience now(he also directed Neil Giaman's Stardust). I can see this happening if Millar/Vaughn put their considerable weight into the idea.

Thanks to Rich Johnston at BleedingCool for the story!
