Clash of the Titans, Harry Potter To Be in 3-D

After a couple of weeks of hand wringing, Warner Bros. has finally announced that both Clash of the Titans and the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows will be converted to digital 3-D. For those that care, the studio will also be releasing Cats & Dogs 2 in the trendy format. Due to the sudden shift, Warners has pushed back the release date of Titans a week to April 2nd.

Even with the push back, that doesn't leave a lot of time for the conversion to take place. Roughly 10 weeks in total, which is a fraction of the time afforded to most big screen flicks. WB has tapped relative newcomers, Prime Focus Group, to handle the conversion, using their own technique known as View 3-D. The India-owned company boasts that the technique is the fastest of any in the marketplace.

Warner Bros. is taking a huge risk here with such a huge tentpole release. If Prime Focus's technique isn't as fast as they claim, and the film continues to be pushed back to where it's competing with larger releases directly, it could spell disaster. Also, the View 3-D was tested awhile back and received middling reviews for it's look. I hope they aren't making a big mistake here, because Titans is one of the films I'm most anticipating in 2010.
