If this were titled anything other than Battleship I'm convinced people would be a lot less harsh towards it. I include myself in that, because the idea of making a movie based on a simplistic board game featuring a story that has nothing to do with said board game is just ridiculous. However, a Peter Berg directed sea adventure featuring the world's naval forces battling an invading alien fleet is something that I really want to see done right. Adding Taylor Kitsch(Friday Night Lights) to the starring role is another step in the right direction.
Heatvision reports that Kitsch will take on the role of the "wildly spirited" Alex Hopper, commanding officer of a destroyer and a small group of crewmates. The role was once held by Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner(The Hurt Locker) but he had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Kitsch could most recently be seen as Gambit in last year's X-men Origins: Wolverine and as the title character in upcoming sci-fi flick, John Carter of Mars.
