Del Toro Planning Van Helsing Reboot?

I remember having a crapload of anticipation for Van Helsing when it came out back in 2004. First, it was directed by Stephen Somers, who at the time was in my good graces thanks to The Mummy. It starred Hugh Jackman, one of my faves, and featured a number of the classic movie monsters basically all teaming up against him. It looked like a lot of fun. It wasn't. End of story.

With Guillermo Del Toro having just stepped away from directing The Hobbit, speculation is that he's turning his attention towards bringing the famed vampire hunter back for another go'round. According to Pajiba, Universal is set for another adventure, with Del Toro possibly writing and producing. At this stage it doesn't look as if he'll be directing, but that could change. Nor does it appear that this version will be related to the 2004 film at all, which is probably a good thing. Although if they wanted to have Kate Beckinsale in tight clothes like that one did, I could be open to a sequel....

Van Helsing was created by Bram Stoker as the archenemy of Dracula in the 1897 novel. He's an expert of many different trades, but is primarily a doctor and vampire hunter. His character has been spun off into numerous films, books, and even anime. My favorite incarnation of the character will forever be Anthony Hopkins' take in Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula from 1992.
