The Sunday Drive: 6/6/10

Dreamworks bids a fond farewell to the lovable ogre with a story that reminds us all of why we loved it to begin with. It's sad that we might not hear the voice talents of Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy together again but at least they're going out in style.

Scientific ambition, bad parenting, and raging adolescent hormones combine to form the craziest sci-fi film of the year. Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley are a pair of hotshot geneticists, who disregard the law and their own ethics in order to create a human/animal hybrid, who they come to accept as their "daughter". Things don't go well. Those with too strong of a moral compass need not apply.

You'll probably never hear me say this again, but Sean "Puffy" Combs stole the show. Considering his powerful castmates, Jonah Hill and Russell Brand, that's quite a feat. Spinning off from 2008's Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Greek follows hard rockin' Aldous Snow as he runs into every conceivable roadblock on the way to a ten year anniversary gig in LA. Judd Apatow is pretty hit or miss when it comes to the films he produces, but Greek is a certified gem.

DVD Pick of the Week:The Stranger

Rather than bore you with an obvious pick like Alice in Wonderland(which i didn't really care for anyway), I figured I'd point you in the direction of an action flick that's good enough to kick you in the face with it's old school charm. That film is The Stranger, starring former WWE heavyweight champ, Stone Cold Steve Austin as an amnesiac who finds himself wanted by the FBI and the Russian mob. Sounds a little bit like The Bourne series, right? It's more like a throwback to the days of silent but dead action heroes from the 1980s. Think Commando or...Remo Williams. If that sounds like it's your speed, you're gonna dig The Stranger.
