So this should make some people very happy. While talking with GC, Will Arnett, who played self centered brother Gob Bluth, revealed that the movie is indeed happening. All of the principle cast is on board, and for once there's an actual script, but no timetable as to when the film will begin shooting. Encouraged to call co-creator Mitch Hurwitz, he basically backed up Arnett's story...
"Believe it or not, we have started the script," Hurwitz told GQ. (And by "we," he means himself and "Arrested" co-executive producer Jim Vallely.) "We're taking a little abeyance while we get ['Running Wilde'] up and running. But it is our absolute next priority and we can't wait to do it."
I'm sure Hurwitz means well, and in the article he actually apologizes to AD fans for being so mysterious all these years about the film. For me, it's an "I'll believe it when I see it" situation. I want it to happen, but there's a lot going against it. AD has been off the air for four years, and by the time the movie could enter production it'll be at least five. Maybe more. That's a long window out of the public eye, especially for a film based on a TV show with only a cult audience to begin with.
That brings up another issue as to whether or not any studio would pick it up for distribution. What's the box office potential for something like this? Lastly, pretty much the entire cast have gone on to do other things, with Michael Cera and Jason Bateman being the obvious breakout stars. AD packs one of the largest casts of any series, and gettin schedules aligned is going to be tough.
