Tops at the Box Office

1. Despicable Me- $60.1M
While not nearly the opening of Toy Story 3 or Shrek 4, Despicable Me exceeded all estimates with the highest grossing opening for a non-Pixar animated film since Kung Fu Panda. Surprisingly, most people did NOT go see it in 3-D, making its total even more remarkable. Only 45% of it's total earning came from the format.
2. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse- $33.4M/$237M
Dropping nearly 50% might sound like a bit of a kick in the pants, but that's actually better than the two previous Twilight films did in their second week. Besides, you gotta figure that most people ran out and saw it on Wednesday or the opening weekend.
3. Predators- $25.3M
Hunting down the 3rd spot is Predators, marking the biggest opening for a Predators movie since Alien vs. Predator. That's sad, in a way. It also marks the biggest opening for a Robert Rodriguez produced film to date.
4. Toy Story 3- $22M/$340M
5. The Last Airbender- $17.1M/$100M
Proving my point that critics' reviews only matter in the 2nd and 3rd weeks of a film's run, M. Night Shymalan's Airbender dropped 58% from last week. The film was savaged by both critics and filmgoers alike.
6. Grown Ups- $16.4M/$111M
7. Knight & Day- $7.85M/$61.9M
8. The Karate Kid- $5.7M/$165M
9. The A-Team- $1.8M/$74M
10. Cyrus- $1.38M/$3.52M
