Twilight Kids Get Paid; Harry Potter Kids Get Screwed

How much does it pay to be marginally talented but extremely hot actors starring in one of the world's biggest movie franchises? If you're Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and the ghostly Robert Pattinson, the answer is simple: $25M plus incentives. Guh. The trio are said to be earning that amount for the concluding two-part Breaking Dawn saga, plus 7.5% of the films' final gross. That could be upwards of $40M. That's just sick. That's more than the GNP of some small countries.

On the other hand, the Harry Potter gang are taking one great expecto petronum to the arse. They're getting screwed royally. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is the 9th highest grossing film of all-time, making nearly $1B worldwide. So obviously it turned a profit, right? Wrong. At least according to a leaked accounting statement from Warner Brothers, which shows a net loss of $167M. Whatchu talkin' about, Willis??

The statement clearly shows that the cost of marketing and distribution were the causes of the failure, but that doesn't really make sense. It's obviously a ploy by the studio to avoid paying the principle cast their added incentives, which are said to be based on the film's net revenue. D'oh! Seriously. If a billion dollar film can't turn a profit, there would be no movies at all. This shameless tactic by Warner Brothers to avoid paying what's owed is part of the reason why studio execs have a bad reputation.
