Trailer Time: The Tempest, directed by Julie Taymor

We've already seen some images from Julie Taymor's gender twisting adaptation of William Shakespeare's The Tempest, including the spectacular above poster image. Now we're finally getting a look at the trailer and I'm thinking another film has just been added to my most anticipated list for the remainder of 2010.

I've had my issues with Taymor's work in the past, but even when she misfires(hello Across the Universe!) she does so in spectacular fashion. Check out the trailer for The Tempest, followed by a brief plot description. The Tempest will be released into theaters on December 10th, 2010.

PLOT
In her big-screen adaptation of Shakespeare's mystical thriller The Tempest, Academy Award-nominated Julie Taymor brings an original dynamic to the story by changing the gender of the sorcerer Prospero into the sorceress Prospera, portrayed by Oscar winner Helen Mirren. Prospera's journey spirals through vengeance to forgiveness as she reigns over a magical island, cares for her young daughter, Miranda, and unleashes her powers against shipwrecked enemies in this exciting, masterly mix of romance, tragicomedy and the supernatural.
