'True Blood' star the frontrunner to play Superman?

Chances are you only know the name Joe Manganiello if you watch True Blood on HBO every Sunday, and even then you probably only recognize his face...when it's not covered in fur.  The actor showed up last season as Alcide Herveaux, a werewolf hired by Eric Northman to be Sookie's bodyguard for awhile. Sound familiar now? Well, if the recent tweet from the LA Times' Geoff Boucher turns out to be true, expect his name to become a lot more common.

Here's the tweet from other the weekend...

Is "True Blood" werewolf star Joe Manganiello a frontrunner to play Superman? That's the rumor du jour in Hollywood #superman

Manganiello has some superhero flick experience, since he played Flash Thompson in the Sam Raimi trilogy of Spider-Man movies. When clean shaven he's definitely got the look for it. What do you think? Is he a good pick? This isn't the first time this rumor has been floated out there, but having the LA Times push it gives it more credibility. I keep expecting a slightly more recognizable name for Zack Snyder's Superman, but maybe I'm thinking completely wrong.
