Briefly...
As expected, Andy Serkis' signing to return as Gollum in The Hobbit was quickly followed up by another as Ian McKellen has signed as well. He'll be reprising his role as the all powerful wizard, Gandalf.
With shooting set to kick off this month in New Zealand it was necessary to get all the principles locked down. Christopher Lee, Ian Holm, and possibly Orlando Bloom are still on the table to possibly return.
The first half of The Hobbit,directed by Peter Jackson, should hit theaters on December 19th 2012. The second film will premier one year later.
