Rumor: Is Keanu Reeves jumping back into The Matrix? WB Buys The Wachowski's futuristic Robin Hood flick?

As far as The Matrix goes, it was pretty much diminishing returns the whole way through. As groundbreaking and seminal as the original 1999 film was, that's how lousy the final two installments were. But there's no deny they were hugely successful, and the thought that the story of Neo and the rest of the black leather gang wasn't quite over has persisted for years. One of Aint It Cool News' sources attended a Q&A with Keanu Reeves who had a few things to say about a possible return to the sci-fi franchise, and according to him it sounds like discussions are indeed underway...

"Says he met the Wachowski's (no emphasis on the word brothers), for lunch over Christmas and stated that they had completed work on a two picture script treatment that would see him return to the world of the Matrix as Neo. Says the brothers have met with Jim Cameron to discuss the pro's and con's of 3D and are looking to deliver something which has never been seen again. Keanu stated that he still has an obligation to the fans to deliver a movie worthy of the title "The Matrix" and he swears this time that the treatment will truly revolutionise the action genre like the first movie. Wachowski's are working on a movie called Cloud Atlas at the moment, once that concludes they will talk again."

Sounds like Keanu agrees with me about Reloaded and Revolutions. Of even more interest to me right now is another statement attributed to Keanu, that Warner Brothers had just bought the Wachowski's script for 'Hood', a futuristic take on the tale of Robin Hood. The buying price of $5M is the most in Hollywood history, so obviously somebody's got some really stinkin' high hopes for this thing. Back in December when we first wrote about the film, The Wachowskis were negotiating with Will Smith for the title role, and according to this latest report he has indeed signed on.

So it looks like The Wachowskis are coming back in a really big way. I haven't been all that amazed by anything they've done post-Matrix, but they're such visual pioneers that I want to see how they put all this new 3D technology to use.
