The Sunday Drive: 1/9/11

The creepiest movie about ballet you're likely to ever see, Black Swan is an intense thrillride featuring an amazing, transformative performance by Natalie Portman.
2. The Fighter
While the entire cast of David O. Russell's biopic about the life of welterchampion "Irish" Micky Ward are phenomenal, it's Christian Bale's layered turn as drug addicted hometown hero, Dicky Ecklund, that scores the biggest knock out. Expect Oscar noms to follow.
1. Blue Valentine
A heartbreaking, emotionally scarring story of young love turned to dust, Blue Valentine is a romance that will burn into your memory. Through the glorious highs and devastating lows, Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling will pierce your heart with the raw intensity of their performances. A must see film.

DVD Pick of the Week: Machete
Nobody brings more energy and excitement to their movies than Robert Rodriguez, but even by his standards Machete is balls out insane. When Danny Trejo as ex-Federale turned blade wielding vigilante is the most sane casting choice, you know you're in for a crazy ride. Check out Robert De Niro as immigrant as an immigrant hating senator, or Lindsay Lohan as a gun-toting socialite, and that's nothing compard to a bloated, scene chewing Steven Seagal as an ass kicking drug lord. Subtlety and coherence are nowhere near on the agenda for this Mexploitation flick, and that's exactly why it's so much damn fun.
