And like that, Dead Island becomes a movie

Talk about hyper buzz and how quickly this industry works. It was only 48 hours ago that people started taking note of the ASTOUNDING trailer for Dead Island. I'm seriously not going out on a limb here when saying this thing has the parts to be a nominee for best short film...not just a promo for a good game. You start our looking into the eyes of a dead girl laying on the grass....then the camera pans back and takes you in reverse through the events that got her there. The result....tragic, horrifying, and dare I say tear inducing.

Well the buzz around the trailer has been on MAX for 2 days now, and that's all it took for someone to pick up the movie rights in Hollywood, the lucky recipient Sean Daniels a producing verteran who's done movies like The Mummy, and The Wolfman. Thing is....it's the trailer that's awesome, the story that is told in it and by the end of the trailer that story is complete. Here's the situation, this trailer has so much impact because of the way it looks at a zombie outbreak, and how they choose to tell that story, in reverse order. Usually there's some emotion in the begining, but really not much..."oh my wife got bit, I should cry.....whoops no time to cry shes now alive again and trying to eat me!" You see...no time for crying in the Zombie apocalypse, no time to reflect on what's happened and realize the gravity of the losses received. This flick was just purchased due to the influence of us hyper nerds and the buzz we create, not to take away from the trailer...like I said, it transcends its medium. I just think that Hollywood will end up making a movie about a zombie outbreak on a resort island and forget the emotion in lieu of gore.  I'm thinking Broken Lizard's Club Dred meets Zombie Strippers....but that's just me.

If you still haven't seen it here's the trailer I almost lost my man card over.

  1. Me too! I haven't felt that kind of emotion out of a movie trailer in months. Here's the question, though. Are they going to base this movie around the family we see in this trailer?(the dad looks like Chris Evans) Or are they going to use the game storyline, which doesn't involve them at all?
