Guy Ritchie offered 300 sequel? What about Zack Snyder?

Interesting developments that touch upon a number of fronts, all revolving around Superman director Zack Snyder. Here's the kickoff...

Vulture is reporting that Guy Ritchie has been offered the directing gig for Xerxes, the proposed sequel to 300. Warner Brothers has been extremely happy with Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes flick, quickly locking him in for the sequel. He obviously knows his way around violent action after years of crime flicks.

The thing is, doesn't this come as a slap in the face to Zack Snyder? The director is synonymous with 300, crafting a visual style that has been copied by others ever since. Snyder has been working closely with writer Frank Miller on the story for the sequel as the comic book version was prepped. The reason was clearly because he planned to be involved when the film adaptation was underway.

So what's the deal? Well there's this little thing called 'Superman' that Snyder is directing. That's one huge melon ball dude has to swallow, and according to the story, the David Goyer script has some issues. Warner Brothers has to make a decision and clearly Superman is going to win out. Getting that done and perfected is job #1. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if Snyder still has some involvement with Xerxes even if it's not from the director's chair. He and Miller worked well together so why completely spoil it?

Vulture also notes an anonymous source who notes that my beloved Sucker Punch hasn't been testing so well, and that's why Snyder may've lost the Xerxes job. That can't be confirmed, so take it with a grain of salt. I don't buy it for the same reasons others are sighting, which is that if Sucker Punch was really stinkin' up the joint WB never would've given Superman to Snyder in the first place.
