Ice Cube joins 21 Jump Street; preps new "Boyz in the Hood" style drama

Ice Cube is set to join the fresh faced NARCs of 21 Jump Street, Jonah Hill's adaptation of the 1980s TV series which featured a young Johnny Depp. Ice Cube will be playing Captain Adam Fuller, who no doubt has his hands full overseeing the two undercover cops played by Hill and Channing Tatum.  Cube will tackle this one after he scoops an easy paycheck as part of New Year's Eve, the semi-sequel to Valentine's Day.  N.W.A. has never seemed more far away....

....maybe I'm wrong about that, though. Cube could be trying to distance himself just a little bit from all the junk flicks he's been doing lately and going back to his roots, so to speak.  He's currently shopping Chrome and Paint, described as a "Boyz in the Hood" style urban flick focusing on the tricked out car culture.  The film would be a starring vehicle for Cube, as well as his first directing gig since 1998's The Players Club.

I'm much more interested in the N.W.A. documentary Ice Cube has been attached to along with World Trade Center's Andrea Berloff as screenwriter. Maybe it's just because I heard 'Straight Outta Compton' so recently during Take Me Home Tonight but I've been on an N.W.A. kick lately.

Thanks to Deadline for info on this story.
