That planned follow-up, which brings back the majority of the cast and characters while switching the focus to the story of Hansel & Gretel, was supposed to be released back in January....of 2010! However the film got caught up in a legal scrap between The Weinstein Company and Kanbar Entertainment, so it was pushed back to April 29th 2011. That date is rapidly approaching, and now we've got the first trailer for Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil.
The animation remains an issue for me, which just doesn't have the snap of a Pixar or Dreamworks flick. Not that I expect every animated feature to be of that quality, this doesn't even compare to something like Gnomeo & Juliet. That deficiency puts an added burden on the script and voice acting to be perfect, and while this trailer has a few funny jabs it doesn't appear to be markedly better than the previous film. I'm sure the kids will love it, though, and who knows? Maybe it'll surprise me. I'm hoping the fact that Mike Disa is single-handedly tackling the direction will be a benefit. Hoodwinked featured a trio of directors working on it, and to me the differences in style were pretty apparent.
Hoodwinked Too features the voice talents of Anne Hathaway, Glenn Close, Hayden Panettiere, Patrick Warburton, Cory Edwards, Wayne Knight, and Billy Murray, with Bill Hader and Amy Poehler as Hansel and Gretel.
