Trailer Time: Thurgood, starring Laurence Fishburne

HBO Films has released the trailer for Thurgood, which features Laurence Fishburne(Searching for Bobby Fischer) as the long time Supreme Court Justice, Thurgood Marshall.  The film is based on George Stevens Jr.'s one-man play, initially starring James Earl Jones, which is basically Marshall recounting the pivotal moments of his life.

This particular version was recorded during a recent live stage performance at the Kennedy Center's Eisenhower Theater, so don't expect a lot of pomp and circumstance. This isn't Turn Off the Dark. I'm actually a really big fan of these types of performances, and I'm quickly reminded of Roger Guenveur Smith's amazing solo act in A Huey P. Newton Story.  Check out the Thurgood trailer below....

No truth to the rumor that HBO was also planning a one-man show based around the career of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, but decided that the sound of crickets chirping for two hours wasn't suitable for any audience. Plus they had a hard time finding Coke cans with life-like pubic hair.

Thurgood will air on February 24th(my birthday!! Yes!!) in honor of Black History Month. Be sure to check it out! Thanks to Slashfilm for the heads up on this one!
