Eric McCormack to star in WWE Studios' next film, Barricade, directed by Andrew Currie

Over the last nine years I've seen every single movie that WWE Studios(formerly WWE Films) has produced. Well, all except The Chaperone and that just hit DVD like a week ago. Give me time. The company founded by WWE Prez Vince "Grapefruits" McMahon to capitalize on the star power of his talent roster has yet to find that one big box office hit. Their biggest successes came as joint collaborators with other studios, such as The Rock's three earliest films: The Scorpion King, The Rundown, and Walking Tall.  But ever since they went off on their own, the returns have been diminishing. Their most recent mainsteam release, Legendary, topped off at $200,000 domestically. Ouch.

Their next film doesnt appear to be any more promising, but at least it appears to be the first movie without a WWE superstar in the lead.  THR is reporting that Eric McCormack(Will and Grace, Free Enterprise) will be starring in Barricade, described as a supernatural thriller. I guess that puts it in the realm of 2006's See No Evil.  McCormack will star as "a psychiatrist, seeking to find normalcy after the sudden passing of his wife, who takes his two kids to a remote cabin for healing and bonding. Their joy soon turns to despair when the family is terrorized by unknown forces and the father will stop at nothing to save them from peril.” Wow that's a boring sounding plot.

Perhaps most interesting is the director, Andrew Currie, who scored some major brownie points with folks for his zombie comedy, Fido. I doubt that'll translate to a big box office for the WWE, though.
