The Bourne Legacy contender list shrinks; screen tests upcoming

The last time we caught up with The Bourne Legacy there were 14(!!!!!?) names on the list of contenders to join the hot spy film. Tony Gilroy is back to write and direct the film, the fourth in the franchise and the first without Matt Damon starring. Not a reboot or a prequel, the story takes place very much in the Bourne world and centers around some of the aftershocks of his actions. Deadline reports that screen tests are set to get underway next month, and a few names are already scheduled.

Those actors would be Joel Edgerton(Animal Kingdom), the ever popular and in demand Garrett Hedlund(Country Strong), Dominic Cooper(Captain America: The First Avenger), and Luke Evans(Clash of the Titans). Thankfully the name Alex Pettyfer is nowhere to be found, but sadly Michael Fassbender's name has disappeared as well. Darnit. A few established actors could still play a factor, with Shia Labeouf's name being floated around as a possibility. The same goes for Logan Marshall-Green(Brooklyn's Finest) and Taylor Kitsch(Battleship).

Since we still don't know exactly what the role calls for, choosing who'd be the best fit is impossible. However, can Labeouf be eliminated from the running post-haste? I love the Bourne universe for their ultra-realism, and everytime I see Labeouf it completely takes me out of the moment. Fine for a movie like Transformers, not so good for this.
