The first trailer for Water for Elephants was a beautiful piece of work. Clear, crisp, and brimming with romance throughout every frame. Directed by Francis Lawrence(I Am Legend), it was clear he was aiming to focus more on atmosphere than anything else. Now a brand new trailer has been release, and it's turning more to the impressive cast. In particualar there's an increased look at Robert Pattinson as Jacob, a student who runs away and joins a travelling circus. There he falls in love with Marlena(Reese Witherspoon), the show's equestrian star and wife of the show's head trainer(Christoph Waltz).
The way Lawrence presents the WWII era, along with the antiquated showbiz charm of the circus, reminds me a little bit of what Joe Wright did in Atonement. Maybe I'm just having flashbacks of that film's awesome single shot beach sequence with the ferris wheel in the background. Whatever. This is a gorgeous looking movie, and Lawrence certainly knows how to make Witherspoon's natural beauty pop. Check out the trailer below, and look out for Water For Elephants when it hits theaters on April 22nd.
