Sure Shots: Stephen Daldry; Mark Wahlberg; Michael Fassbender

* It's becoming fashionable to make adventure films for kids again, and Working Title is looking to jump into the game in a big way. They've just scooped up the film rights to Andy Mulligan's kids adventure novel, Trash, with plans to have Richard Curtis(Love Actually) pen the script and Stephen Daldry(The Reader) directing. The story follows a group of kids living in a Third World country, who scrape out a living by digging through trash heaps. One day they uncover a leather bag, the contents of which send them on a terrible adventure against a corrupt authority.

* Mark Wahlberg must be trying to steal the "world's busiest actor" title away from James Franco. After a jam packed 2010, the actor already has a couple of films in the works(Ted and Contraband), plus one can never forget the Uncharted adaptation he's set to star in fir David O. Russell. Add another one to his crowded schedule, as Universal have picked up Matthew J. O'Neill's script for Bait and Switch, an action comedy for him to star in. Variety notes that the plot of the film is being kept firmly under wraps at this point.

* There've been a number of decent dramatic films covering the music industry over the last few years. I quite liked The Runaways last year, plus Cadillac Records the year before. Both were solid flicks with great casts and did a good job capturing the music of their respective eras. What we have rarely seen is a good film about punk rock. That's about to change as CineEuropa reports Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros D’Sa(Cherrybomb) are set to direct Good Vibrations, about Terri Hooley, found of Good Vibrations Records. Hooley was largely responsible for punk rock bands like The Undertones making a global splash on the music scene.  Michael Fassbender and his Hunger co-star Liam Cunningham are already set for supporting roles. Filming is set to begin in August, with a release some time in 2012.
