Paramount to adapt superhero comic The Mighty for the big screen? Let's hope!

One of the coolest comics to come around in some time was Peter Tomasi and Keith Champagne's superb limited series, The Mighty. The 12-issue series follows police officer Gabriel Cole, who as a youth had his life saved by the world's only supehero, Alpha One. But as Gabriel grows up and begins looking into the hero's past, he discovers a dark secret and an even more siniser plot. So what you basically have is almost like a twist on the whole Batman idea, with the normal cop taking on the souped up hero.

Deadline is reporting that Paramount Pictures has picked up the film rights to the series, which is something of a coup considering that virtually all DC Comics properties have to go through Warner Brothers. The difference here is that The Mighty doesn't actually take place in the DC Universe, and the comic is owned by creators Tomasi and Champagne.

This could turn out to be pretty awesome if done right, but I'll wait and see what creative folks are attached before I get too amped up.
