Sure Shots: The Man of Steel; Ryan Gosling; James McAvoy joins Danny Boyle's Trance

* Julia Ormond(Iron Jawed Angels) is in talks to play Superman's real mom, Lara Lor-Van in The Man of Steel. Russell Crowe has been offered the role of his daddy, Jor-El, with Diane Lane and Kevin Costner playing his adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent. Henry Cavill(The Tudors) is Superman. Amy Adams is set for Lois Lane. Michael Shannon and Antje Traue(Pandorum) as the villains, General Zod and Faora. [Deadline]

* Ryan Gosling and director Nicholas Winding Refn have proven to be an inseparable duo. They worked together on Drive, which is currently burning up the festival circuit. They'll team-up on a Logan's Run remake as well, and are already talking about doing a romantic comedy in the near future. But before all that, Refn has Only God Forgives, a drama set in Bangkok about a criminal who learns he must confront his mother in order to find the peace he's seeking. Luke Evans and Kristen Scott Thomas are set to star, but now there's news that Ryan Gosling has joined the cast as well. Does this mean he's replacing Evans? Nobody knows at this point but it's certainly a possibility. [Twitch]

* Danny Boyle's heist film, Trance, just lost it's lead in Michael Fassbender. Fortunately his X-men: First Class buddy, James McAvoy, has picked up the slack. McAvoy will star as the leader of a gang of art thieves, who team up with an auctioneer on a job. But when he gets struck in the head and suffers amnesia, he forgets the location of the painting. The gang decide to hire a hypnotist to try and figure out if he's lying or telling the truth. Boyle's commitments to the Olympics will force the film to be completed in 2013, although filming should begin this fall. [Variety]
