Sure Shots: The Master; Magic Kingdom; Percy Jackson sequel finds a director

* I saw this coming. Paul Thomas Anderson's latest film had been known as The Master since the very beginning, but somewhere down the line it lost that title, forcing everyone to call it the "untitled religious film". I kept calling it by it's original name because I figured eventually it would revert back to just being The Master, and that day has come. PT has also added two more to the already remarkable cast: Joshua Close(Diary of the Dead) and Fiona Dourif(The Messenger). Close will play a disciple to Lancaster Dodd(Philip Seymour Hoffman), the man who returns from WWII and creates the belief system that takes the country by storm. Dourif's role has yet to be revealed.

* Disney's plan to make a crapload of flicks based on their theme park rides is potentially a terrible one. They aren't all going to turn out like Pirates of the Caribbean and may end up throwing some ill will the Mouse House's way. The biggest gamble may be Magic Kingdom, which throws the entire park under the firing line in a Night at the Museum-style romp. Disney isn't taking any chances, having lured Jon Favreau away from Iron Man 3 in order to direct, and now they've hired acclaimed novelist Michael Chabon(Spider-Man 2; John Carter) to write the script. With talent like this Magic Kingdom might not be so bad afterall.[THR]

* After twiddling their times for what seemed like an eternity, Fox finally saw fit to get a sequel to Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief off the friggin' ground. Back in May they hired Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski(Agent Cody Banks) to start work on the script, which would follow the 2nd of Rick Riordan's 5 books, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters. Well now we have a director, and it's not often you'll hear me say that anybody is a step down from the awful Chris Columbus, but this is one of those times. Thor Freudenthal(Hotel for Dogs, Diary of a Wimpy Kid) is on board for the job, with the film possibly to release sometime next year. Seems kinda quick. [LA Times]
