What would you call a guy who gets thrown in jail for intentionally offering a cop some weed? You'd probably call him an idiot at the very least. In the new comedy, My Idiot Brother, you'd also call that guy "Paul Rudd". Rudd stars in the film as Ned, a clueless guy who makes life miserable for his three straight laced sisters, played by Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, and Emily Mortimer. Jesse Peretz wrote and directed the film, his first since 2007's The Ex. If you didn't catch it, I wouldn't worry too much about it. You're not missing a thing.
A second trailer for My Idiot Brother has been released, and it shows us a little more of Rudd acting like a buffoon. For some reason I'm not feeling this. Maybe because after Dinner for Schmucks I'm wary of movies starring characters that are too stupid to exist. The trailer hints that there's more to Ned than meets the eye, but we'll see how that turns out. Look for My Idiot Brother when it hits on August 26th!
PLOT
Ned Rochlin is a kindhearted and clueless man who gets himself thrown in jail for “sympathetically” offering some weed to a uniformed police officer. When he is released, his girlfriend kicks him out and forces him to live off the generosity of his three sisters and mother, whose stressful, ambitious lives are far from compatible with Ned’s laid-back and sunny approach. The harder Ned tries to spread joy and love, the more trouble he causes.
