Relativity Media has released the first image from Machine Gun Preacher, Marc Forster's film based on the life of ex gang biker and drug dealer, Sam Childers. Relativity is hoping for a big awards season push for this one and it's star, Gerard Butler, portaying Childers as he finds God and heads to the Sudan to help African schoolchildren avoid the horrors of war. Michelle Monaghan and Michael Shannon co-star.
Due for a limited roll out on September 23rd, could this be Butler's first legit shot at an Oscar nom? A chance to break free from the braindead lunk roles he's been playing for years? I'll be curious to find out. Childers' story is a great one, ready made for the big screen. I just hope Forster and Butler both have what it takes to do it justice. [USA Today]
