Emma Stone joins Ryan Gosling and Sean Penn in Gangster Squad

Ruben Fleischer's Gangster Squad might have the good to kick The Untouchables to the curb as the coolest Depression era cops vs. mobsters. Based on Paul Lieberson's series of LA Times articles, the film will cover a specialized group of cops in the 1940s created to stem the influence of the east coast mafia on the the west.  Ex-cop turned writer Will Beall wrote the script, and thus far it's been pretty much all dudes in the production.

Until now that is, as Hollywood's "It" girl Emma Stone will play Jean, a woman who comes between famous Jewish mobster Mickey Cohen(Sean Penn) and the cop played by Ryan Gosling. She joins a top notch cast which also includes Anthony Mackie, Michael Pena, Josh Brolin, Holt McCallany, and Giovanni Ribisi. Bryan Cranston had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

You're not going to be able to avoid Emma Stone for the better part of the next year. She'll be starring alongside Gosling this week in the romantic comedy, Crazy, Stupid, Love. In just a few weeks she'll headline the adaptation of The Help. And let's not forget she's got this little indie film called The Amazing Spider-Man coming up. [Variety]
