Steven Soderbergh has had an unusual focus lately on taking actresses out of left and turning them into unexpected star. Sasha Grey in The Girlfriend Experience is a prime example. Now it looks like he's done it again with MMA fighter Gina Carano. One look at this fast paced, hard hitting trailer will show you she's the real deal...
Smart move, Soderbergh. Just a few moments of Carano kicking butt have convinced me that her raw physicality is what may set her apart from other female leads. Uh, she's also kinda hot. I'd be willing to suffer a broken bone or two.
In case you couldn't tell, Carano stars as high level government operative seeking revenge and answers when her bosses double cross her. Soderbergh has put to together an insane cast surrounding the untested Carano: Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Michael Douglas, Ewan McGregor, Bill Paxton, and Michael Angarano.
Haywire looks to be the jewel of 2012's winter season, opening on January 20th!
