Trailer Time: The Interrupters, from the director of Hoop Dreams

Every year you can count on there being a handful of truly great, informative documentaries. Few, however, have the sort of impact that Steve James's 1994 basketball doc, Hoop Dreams. The film was a look at the life of two inner city youths, pinning their hopes and dreams on a shot at making it to the NBA. It opened a lot of people's eyes to the bleak realities for a lot of kids, and the way some people were willing to take advantage of that desperation for their own gain.

Well now James is back with his next film, The Interrupters, a documentary following three former Chicago gang members who now serve as violence interrupters, trying to prevent the same sort of destruction they used to cause.  The film hit the festival circuit a few months ago and has been winning raves ever since. Check out the trailer below...

The Interrupters will open it's slow roll out on July 29th in New York. It debuts here in DC on September 16th!
