Trailer Time: The Iron Lady, starring Meryl Streep

The film that The Iron Lady is probably going to be compared to most is The Queen, in which Helen Mirren took on the challenging role of playing Queen Elizabeth and simply knocked it out of the park, not simply emobodying the monarch but making the character her own. The Iron Lady features another normally flawless actress, Meryl Streep, playing another key female figure in modern history, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. The film is directed by Phyllida Lloyd(Mamma Mia!), and will cover the days leading up the 1982 Falklands War.

We've seen an image of Streep as Thatcher already, but this new teaser trailer gives us a chance to hear her, and....well, I'm not prepared to say it sucks...

The opening bit with the consultants judging Thatcher's appearance and voice might as well be giving light to my own concerns. It's only one line we hear Streep speak, but it comes off as an impression. A bit. A routine. I'll withhold further judgement until we see some extended footage, though.

The Iron Lady opens here on December 16th.
