Trailer Time: Restless, directed by Gus Van Sant
One of the cool things about Gus Van Sant is that it's impossible to get a handle on what type of film he'll do next. Will it be his incredibly experimental indie films like Paranoid Park or Gerry? Or will it be something more mainstream, like Milk or Good Will Hunting? Surprisingly I find his stuff more interesting with the latter. His latest, Restless, looks like Van Sant's trying to have it both ways.
The film stars Mia Wasikowska(Jane Eyre) as a terminally ill girl who falls in love with a handsome, weird guy played by Henry Hopper who gets his kicks by attending funerals. His best friend also happens to be the ghost of a WWII pilot. Yeah. Weird, but based on this new trailer it looks like an endlessly romantic film as well. Could be good, although response from the festival circuit has been lukewarm.
Jason Lew wrote the script. Schuyler Fisk(haven't seen her in a minute), Jane Adams(The Anniversary Party), and Ryo Kase(Letters from Iwo Jima) co-star.
Restless will open in theaters on September 16th.
