Avatar co-star Joel David Moore joins cast of Jewtopia

On a list of recognizable "that guy" actors, Joel David Moore has to rank somewhere near the top. He first came to the attention of most folks as a member of Vince Vaughn's team in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, and has since made a career of playing either nerds or the main character's best buddy in films like Grandma's Boy and Hatchet. He can also tout the fact he was a major part of the highest grossing film of all time as Sam Worthington's colleague in Avatar. For me, Moore plays my favorite lab tech, the always depressed Colin Fisher, on the FOX series Bones

Variety reports that Moore has joined the cast of Jewtopia, taking over the other male lead opposite Ivan Sergei(The Opposite of Sex). The film is an adaptation of the off-Broadway hit play from Bryan Fogel and Sam Wolfson. Moore will play the Jewish best friend of Sergei's character, a gentile who tries to pass himself off a Jew in order to win the affections of a woman he's fallen for, to be played by Jennifer Love Hewitt.

The yiddish is going to be pretty thick on this set.  Tom Arnold, Jon Lovitz, Nicollette Sheridan, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Rita Wilson, Wendie Malick, Camryn Manheim, Peter Stormare, Lin Shaye, Christine Lakin, Hayes MacArthur, Bree Turner, and Phil Rosenthal(Everybody Loves Raymond creator) are all part of the cast.

They're describing this as a cross between Wedding Crashers(uh oh) and My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which to me sounds like it'll be less a look into Jewish culture and more a collection of silly stereotypes.  We'll just have to wait and see, but based on the cast alone it's definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Moore will be seen next as likely fish food in Shark Night 3D.
