Sure Shots: Gay Dude; Dakota Fanning; Matthew McConaughey joins Magic Mike
* Real life couple Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally, who see plenty of eachother already on Parks & Recreation, have both signed on to indie sex comedy, Gay Dude. The film stars two high school buds who vow to get laid before graduation. Then one of them comes out as gay. Chris Nelson makes his directorial debut, with Gary Cole, Dreama Walker, Nicholas Braun, Dakota Johnson, and Brian Geraghty starring. The script is written by Parks and Recreation scribe, Alan Yang.
* Dakota Fanning is replacing Saoirse Ronan as the star of Emma Thompson's latest writing effort, Effie. The film tells the strange but true story of 19th century artist and scholar John Ruskin and his marriage to the young Effie Gray. Ruskin had desired her, and they married when she was 17 and still a virgin. However after six years they never consummated the marriage, with stories stating that he was repulsed by something. Greg Wise(Thompson's husband) is on board to play Ruskin, with Tom Sturridge replacing Orlando Bloom as John Everett Millais, Gray's future husband and Ruskin's protege. I smell a scandal! Richard Laxton appears to be set to direct.
* The evolution of Matthew McConaughey continues. With The Lincoln Lawyer under his belt and The Paperboy upcoming, McConaughey is challenging himself like never before. Now he'll get a shot to work with one of today's great directors as he's joined the cast of Magic Mike, directed by Steven Soderbergh. Starring Channing Tatum and based on his early days as a male stripper, McConaughey will play an ex-dancer who owns the club where Magic Mike currently plies his trade. Alex Pettyfer is locked in as a young dancer under Mike's guidance.
