Trailer Time: Blackthorn, starring Sam Shepard
Westerns have been making a comeback over the last few years...well, they were until Cowboys & Aliens spoiled it. Whatever, those of us who are fans of the genre haven't had much to get excited about this year with the possible exception of Rango, and it's a long wait until Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. Fortunately we'll have something to tide us over until then with Blackthorn, a Western starring the great Sam Shepard.
Thought Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were killed in a final shootout against the Bolivian army back in 1908? In Blackthorn, Cassidy survived the attack and has been hiding out in Bolivia ever since. Until one day he gets restless and makes his return to the US, and embarks on one final adventure.
I can hardly think of another actor working today who embodies the spirit of those old west classics better than Shepard, and based on this new trailer he appears to be at the top of his game. Stephen Rea and Eduardo Noriega(Transsiberian) co-star, with screenwriter Mateo Gil(Vanilla Sky, Agora) directing. Blackthorn hits VOD on September 2nd, and will ride into theaters on October 7th....
