Trailer Time: The Rum Diary, starring Johnny Depp and Amber Heard
Hunter S. Thompson finished writing The Rum Diary, another book basically featuring himself in a drink and drug induced stupor, way back in 1961. But it never got published until 1998, and was almost immediately sought after for a big screen adaptation. That production has seen multiple incarnations, with various stars attached, until finally getting locked down with Johnny Depp back in the saddle again after Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
Paul Kemp(Depp) is a journalist who heads to San Juan, Puerto Rico to get away from NYC and write for a struggling local paper. While there he becomes a little too fond of rum and LSD, while also falling head over heels for a woman played by Amber Heard. Thompson was in his early 20s when he wrote it, with the story encompassing a lot of his fears of the future, mainly being an old, washed up drunk.
Bruce Robinson(Jennifer Eight) wrote and directed, with Richard Jenkins, Giovanni Ribisi, and Aaron Eckhart co-starring. Check out the new trailer below, and keep an eye out for The Rum Diary when it hits on October 28th...
