Juan Carlos Fresnadillo in talks to direct Highlander reboot

In Summit's quest to find a brand new franchise to fill the gaping void left by the winding down Twilight Saga, they're plumbing some unusual depths. The strangest by far is a remake of the vastly overrated and way out-of-date Highlander series, which starred Christopher Lamber and a slummin' Sean Connery as part of a race of immortal beings. Why anybody would want this remade is beyond me, as it did nothing but crap out some atrocious sequels and one decent TV series. Justin Lin(Fast Five) had been the guy tapped to direct it, but he took a powder after he got busy with more F&F flicks and a potential Terminator 5. Summit's been searching for a replacement ever since and it appears they've found their guy.

Deadline says Summit has entered talks with 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo to helm the project, based on the latest draft of the script by Melissa Rosenberg(Twilight). Fresnadillo makes for an interesting second choice, a director I keep expecting to jump into elite status. That may still happen, as he's got the reboot of The Crow on the way at some point. He's also got Intruders, the ghost flick starring Clive Owen right around the corner. It's premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival later today, I believe.
