Did you not get enough of guys in capes and silly costumes this summer? Eh? Let's face it, superheroes are in, and will continue to be until enough of their flicks fall flat to move people into another fad. One thing we haven't seen all that much of is original superhero content, and maybe that has to do with the relative lack of success those films have had. While Hancock might be an exception, My Super Ex-Girlfriend and the indie Super failed to latch on with anybody. Well now there's one more headed our way, and it has a premise which may just work.
Ron Howard, who always seems to have something on the horizon, is set to direct original superhero film, 364, from writer David Guggenheim(Safe House). The story centers around a guy who spends 364 days out of the year planning for the one day in which he gets juiced up with superpowers. Universal is backing this picture, which sounds like it's going to be less action, more character study.
I dig the idea, and we'll probably see how the world's events, along with the daily occurrances in this guy's life, influence his priorities for the big day. Could turn out to be a cool project depending on the cast. Ron Howard doesn't exactly excite me as a filmmaker, and Guggenheim is an unknown factor at this stage. But the premise is solid. I'll be keeping an eye on this one. [Deadline]
