Sure Shots: Eric Bana; Flight; X-men 4

* Eric Bana has secured a little bit of a reputation for underwhelming, emotionless performances, a holdover I think from the disappointing feedback he got after The Hulk. It's completely bogus, as the man has proven his charisma before in films like Troy, Munich, and most recently in Hanna. Now he'll jump into the heist genre in Brilliant, about a guy who becomes the protege of a gang of diamond thieves just before attempting to biggest diamond heist of all-time. Robert Luketic(Legally Blonde) is directing, so be worried. The last time Luketic tested the heist film waters he gave us the awful card counting flick, 21.

* Brian Geraghty, probably best recognized as part of the starring trio in The Hurt Locker, has joined the cast of Flight,  starring Denzel Washington and directed by Robert Zemeckis. The film centers on a pilot deemed a hero after saving his passengers from a disaster, until an investigation reveals his addictions may have been the cause. Geraghty will play Washington's co-pilot, who turns to religion after the incident. Kelly Reilly, Don Cheadle, and Bruce Greenwood co-star, with rumors of Tommy Lee Jones and Frances McDormand coming aboard next. [THR]

* Our friends at ThePlaylist have a great interview with Hugh Jackman in which he talks Real Steel, praises Darren Aronofsky and James Mangold's work on The Wolverine, and talks his cameo in X-men: First Class. What's most interesting to me are his thoughts on the possibility of an X-men 4 happening down the road, and he doesn't seem so confident...

Jackman: “I don’t see it. I can only see one movie ahead,” he said deflating hopes of a 4th “X-Men” film, despite talk in recent years by the producers of making one more. “I’m pretty sure I’m well into the second half of this match. I don’t know exactly when the end is, but I only go one at a time. If this is the last one, fingers crossed, man, I just hope we finally get that hole in one.”

I hope he's wrong. Even though First Class, Wolverine, and possibly Deadpool can carry the mutant torch just fine, X-men: The Last Stand left such a bitter taste in my mouth that it screams for at least one more film. There's no doubt it'd be a moneymaker, and could possibly invigorate the franchise. It can't happen without Jackman, though.
