As of now the coolest thing about The Frozen Ground is that it represents a sortof break from the typical casting norm for both Nicolas Cage and John Cusack. The film is based on the real life attempt to capture Alaskan serial killer, Robert Hansen, by detective Glen Flothe. Hansen had been actively killing as many as 21 people throughout the early 80s, without anyone suspecting the meek and quiet hunting champion. Little did they know he was tracking more than just animals, as his preferred method of murder was releasing his victims into the wild and hunting them down like prey. In the film, Cusack will play Hansen, with Cage as the trooper dedicated to bringing him to justice. I'm hoping he quirks it up similar to his awesome performance in Bad Lieutenant.
Deadline reports that Vanessa Hudgens, who has already had a busy 2011, will join the cast as one of Hansen's victims who esacapes and notifies the police. This gives Flothe the lead he needs to move in and step up the investigation. Hudgens has been seen twice already this year, in the underrated Sucker Punch, as well as in Beastly.
The Frozen Ground is written/directed by newcomer Scott Walker, and is said to be in the vein of other serial killer films like Seven and The Silence of the Lambs .We'll see about that. Shooting kicks off next month in Alaska.
