Matthew Vaughn considering adaptations of two Mark Millar comics, The Secret Service and Superior

Just two weeks ago, X-men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn picked up the film rights to Superior, one of the more popular comics by Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar. With Vaughn's involvement in Kick-Ass 2 expected to be limited, and no X-men: First Class sequels on the horizon, speculation began that he was lining up his next project. Turns out that may actually by the case, as Vaughn is said to be considering it along with another Millar comic.

Superior tells the story of a young boy afflicted with multiple sclerosis, who idolizes the titular comic book hero. When an alien grants the boy one single wish, he immediately turns into the hero, but soon discovers that with Superiors powers comes a heavy price. No word on who'll star(although Millar has previously bragged of locking in the highest profile actor of 2010....right.), and no writers are attached either.

The second is The Secret Service, which is a comic coming from Millar and the great Dave Gibbons(Watchmen), with Vaughn owning the film rights. No plot details have been revealed yet, and we aren't likely to hear anything until around mid-November at the earliest. The comic doesn't launch until February of next year, so clearly there's a long way to go on this one. Neither this or Superior is close to shooting.

As annoying as he is, Mark Millar tells stories that are made for the big screen, with huge ideas and sprawling widescreen action. Superior is a bit lighter than his usual stuff(Kick-Ass and Wanted are pretty dark), but there is a tough downbeat to the story as well. It'll be interesting to see how that shapes up. As for Vaughn, after the rushed X-men: First Class shoot I don't think he'll be doing anything for a good little while.
