Daniel Day-Lewis rocks some mean scruff as Abraham Lincoln

Steven Spielberg, Daniel Day-Lewis, and pretty much every actor worth a hill of beans have been in Virginia filming Lincoln, the director's biopic on the life of our honest 16th Prez. In all that time one thing I've been shocked by is that we hadn't seen a set pic snapped of Day-Lewis in the role, as the rumors have been that he's been in character for months, walking around with a faceful of hair and wrestling bears or something.

Today we got our first shot of the man eating lunch, clearly rockin' the facial fur of the President. I'm going to guess he was out of character at this moment, since those look like some mighty modern utensils he's using, and that sweater is straight JC Penneys.

Even though Spielberg has two big flicks coming up this month in War Horse and The Adventures of Tintin, the two of them don't come close to the talent he's assembled for Lincoln. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, David Strathairn, Jared Harris, John Hawkes, James Spader, Lee Pace, Jackie Earle Haley, Sally Field, Michael Stuhlbarg, Hal Holbrook, Walton Goggins, Bruce McGill, Tim Blake Nelson, David Oyelowo make up the principle cast.

Lincoln is set to roll out late in 2012, probably just in time to swoop in and score a few Oscar nominations. [TheFilmStage]
