David Gordon Green to direct time travel romance film, Q
After becoming the next indie darling with small, intimate flicks like George Washington, All the Real Girls(a personal fave), and Snow Angels, David Gordon Green went off the deep end and starting kicking out lowbrow comedies. Pineapple Express, Your Highness, and The Sitter you can thank him for, and personally I thought he had reached the point of no return. Thankfully it appears I was wrong.
Green is set to write and direct an adaptation of Evan Mandery's unconventional sci-fi romance novel, Q. The story centers on a man who meets a future version of himself that warns him not to marry Q, the love of his life. After some hesitation, he agrees and leaves his fiance, only to have more future selves visit him and proceed to steer every aspect of his life. The only thing he can't do is forget Q, unable to fill the void of her loss. Supposedly there are hints of comedy mixed in here as well, but I'm hoping it leans more to the thoughtful drama side, the kind of stuff Green used to excel at.
No word on when this one might kick off, but I'll take any news that Green isn't doing another dick 'n fart movie as a good thing. [Variety]
