Sure Shots: Angelina Jolie; Rampage; Elvis & Nixon
* Wow, it's been six months since we learned of Ridley Scott's plan to produce and possibly direct a biopic on the life of controversial political activist, Gertrude Bell. Nothing's been heard about it since, but now THR reports that Angelina Jolie is circling the lead role. Scott has been lining up films left and right, with the likelihood of him directing any of them very slim. I kinda feel the same way about this, but we'll see if things change after he finishes up with Prometheus. Jolie is set to make her own directorial debut next month with In The Land of Blood and Honey.
* Coin chomping arcade game Rampage may be headed to a movie theater near you. No, not in the lounge area with the rest of the lousy video games, but like on the big screen. The 1980s button masher was basically you controlling one of three movie monsters(a giant reptile, a King Kong knockoff, and a werewolf) as they demolish an entire city. New Line is developing the film with Final Destination producer John Rickard, but it's still very early on as writers are still being sought. [THR]
* Cary Elwes(The Princess Bride) has to be happy with the progress his directorial debut is taking. Titled Elvis & Nixon, the comedy follows a strange meeting between Elvis Presley and Richard Nixon at the White House in 1970 where the rock legend asked to become a federal agent. Danny Huston is set to play Nixon, with Eric Bana all locked up for Elvis. International distribution rights are all locked up, and now there are two more additions to the cast. Kevin Connolly(Entourage) and Luke Wilson have sign on. Connolly will play a limo driver, while Wilson is Elvis' friend, Sonny. [THR]
