Sure Shots: Cleopatra; Steven Spielberg; Bill Nighy
* That big budget, 3D biopic on Cleopatra is still happening, although news has been scarce of late. Angelina Jolie has been attached since the beginning, with James Cameron and Paul Greengrass initially sought to direct the film, based on Stacy Schiff's acclaimed novel, Cleopatra: A Life. Last we heard David Fincher was the latest at the top of the directing pile, and now he may have some added incentive to take the gig. Eric Roth, who wrote Fincher's adaptation of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, has entered talks to pen the script, taking over for Brian Helgeland. Sony's putting all their eggs in the basket for this one, so it makes sense for them to do whatever it takes to lure Fincher in. [Variety]
* The Bible? Totally in right now. Darren Aronofsky has his Noah working over at Paramount, while Alex Proyas will spend the next couple of years developing Paradise Lost. A couple of months ago, Warner Brothers jumped into the game by seeking out Steven Spielberg to direct Gods and Kings, which would chronicle the life of Moses from childhood up through his Red Sea parting adulthood. Twitch notes Spielberg has now entered talks, but considering his dance card is pretty full for the next year or so, don't expect to see this one for awhile. The script is by Michael Green(Green Lantern) and Paradise Lost screenwriter Stuart Hazeldine.
* Bill Nighy(Love Actually) is in talks to play the bad guy, a demon prince in Scott Beattie's adaptation of I, Frankenstein. Production is set to kick off soon on the film, which has Aaron Eckhart starring as Adam, Frankenstein's monster now living in the modern age, who finds himself in the middle of a war between two immortal monster clans.
